If you’ve been a Z owner for more than a few months, you’ve probably been frustrated by the hatch at least a few times. We’ve all been there…you’re leaving the grocery store with bags of groceries in hand. When you get to your car, you use your one free hand to hit the hatch release. You hear the distinct *pop*, but the hatch never lifts away from the actuator. Now you have to set all your groceries on the hot asphalt parking lot so you can use your second hand to lift the hatch while pressing the release button AGAIN. This annoyance is only magnified if you’ve added more weight to the hatch by installing a large wing or ducktail spoiler.
Z1’s Hatch Popper was engineered to be a solution to this problem, designed with a heavy-duty lift spring to help push the hatch away from the body when the release is pressed, the way Nissan intended. The body is manufactured from Delrin, a type of hard plastic typically found in aftermarket shift knobs. This allows the assembly to maintain low weight and noise without compromising durability. Inside the body is a heavy-duty lift spring, providing enough force to lift the hatch up and free of the latch when the hatch release is pressed. Covering the spring is a custom-formed EPDM rubber boot. This boot protects the paint from accelerated wear from contact with the spring end and keeps water, dirt, and debris out of the assembly.
